Step 1:
Firstly, open up your selected image into photoshop. Make sure this image isn't too fiddly as it will take a long time to complete.
Step 2:
Now, once you have opened this, zoom into your image so that it is easier to edit. Click on the 'polygonal lasso tool' on the left hand side and select parts of your image that are a similarcolour. The more precise you are with your colours the better and more detailed it will look.

Step 3:
Click on the eyedropper tool on the left hand side and select a colour in the area you wish to grab with the lasso tool.

Step 4:
Continue selecting areas of colour with the lasso tool until you have something that looks like this. Try to neaten up any remaining parts of the original picture by going over them again.

Step 5:
You can alter the colours in your render so that you create a different effect. What I have done here is changing the levels. Here I have increased the red levels to the left. Simply drag the small square on the graph so that it is in a similar position to the diagram below if this is the desired colour.

Step 6:
Now your render is complete! You can apply the same transformations with other images if you wish to do so.
